Man used stolen check to buy cigarettes and get cash back
Southern Regional Police charged a man Saturday in connection with using a stolen check to buy cigarettes and get cash back at a convenience store, according to a news release.
Tait Allison, 24, of North Third Street, New Freedom, faces charges of forgery, identity theft, theft by deception, and receiving stolen property. As of this morning, he was at York County Prison on $15,000 and a York County parole violation.
Police said that on Sept. 26, Allison walked in to the Rutter's Farm Store in New Freedom and used a stolen check to buy cigarettes and receive $26.29 cash back.
Allison signed the receipt as another person who was not the owner of the check. Allison was identified though store surveillance as well as employees knowing Allison, police said.
Police did not say who the check belonged to, or how Allison gained possession of it.
